Our research interests

The development of renewable, low cost energy technologies is now widely considered to be a key scientific challenge for the 21st century. Our group’s primary research interest is the development of new chemical approaches to solar energy conversion in the form of molecular fuels (e.g. hydrogen). Our group’s expertise is focused around photochemistry and physical chemistry. However our research is very much interdisciplinary, with expertise in the group ranging from inorganic materials synthesis to device physics.

Solar Photovoltaics

A historic research interest of the Durrant Group was the development and understanding of low cost, printed photovoltaic technologies for harnessing solar energy to produce electricity. While initially starting from the study of dye-sensitised solar cells, the group focused on solar cells fabricated from organic polymers and small molecules (OPV) and perovskite solar cells. More recently, the group shifted focus to prioritise the Solar Fuels and Spectroelectrochemistry research themes.
