This website is currently under development. Please, consider visiting the Imperial College London Durrant Group webpage.
The Durrant group is interested in the development of new chemical approaches to solar energy conversion. We undertake fundamental scientific studies of new materials and device concepts, aiming to elucidate design principles which enable technological development. Our research is based around using transient laser spectroscopies to undertake photochemical studies of light driven electron and energy transfer reactions.
Our expertise
The Durrant Group is focused upon the functional evaluation of materials and devices for sustainable energy conversion.
Its expertise includes:
- Transient laser spectroscopy from fs to s
- Spectro- and photo- electrochemistry
- Materials and device fabrication and analysis
Materials and devices
Our expertise is applied to develop materials structure and device function relationships for:
- Photocatalysts and photoelectrodes:
- Metal oxides
- Organic semiconductors
- Metal-organic-frameworks
- •Electrocatalysts:
- Metal oxides
- Molecular catalysts
- Organic solar cell materials
Wider motivation
Harnessing the sun's energy to drive catalysis is the major driver of our research, to achieve the goals of:
- Producing fossil-fuel-free fuels and chemicals
- Storage of intermittent renewable energy
- Transportation of renewable energy
- CO2 utilisation
